Zhineng Qigong was found to bring the greatest health benefits of the many types of qigong studied by the China Sports Bureau in 1997. It is also easy to learn and can be practiced anywhere and any time. It was developed by Prof. Ming Pang in the 1980s, drawing on Chinese and Western medicine and science. It spread rapidly in China and then beyond.
Regular practice of Zhineng Qigong increases vital energy and unblocks the energy channels of the body to bring about a free flow of qi and blood.
Both body and mind are used to improve health and heal illness. The different methods give choice and variety of practice. Even a paralysed person can practice Zhineng Qigong, as those with physical restrictions can make greater use of their mind.
Prof Pang has written detailed theory that ranges from explanation of movements and mind activity, through to description of how the universe operates and how human beings themselves fit within it.
Qigong is the oldest form of Chinese medicine and probably the basis upon which Chinese medicine first developed. It combines a series of movements and/or postures with focused meditation.
The long history of qigong has led to a wide variety of forms, some more meditational, others more physical. Zhineng Qigong focusses on both mind and body but sees the mind as paramount.
Zhineng Qigong uses both body and mind to enhance health and heal illness. The practice is done in a meditative state of deep relaxation. Each Method or Form is part of a system of practice, giving individuals flexibility and choice. People can choose which methods to do and how much they practice, to cure illness or simply to remain in good health.
Zhineng Qigong methods vary from challenging movement sequences to seated meditations. The integrated series of methods and exercises work on all aspects of the body including the internal organs, as well as on the mind/spirit (yishi/shen). Depending on each individual's health problems or personal preferences, it is possible to focus on particular methods or parts of a method.
Immediate and obvious benefits of Zhineng Qigong are improved physical health and a sense of wellbeing. Its practice is also very good for the mind. Many practitioners are not only cured of their illnesses and enjoy much better physical health but also develop their mental abilities and can use them to benefit both themselves and others. Some become powerful healers, many can achieve more in their particular field of interest.
Numerous studies in China and internationally have demonstrated that the practise of qigong improves lung capacity, improves the transportation of oxygen to the cells and their utilisation of it, improves the functioning of the circulatory system, makes cardiac muscles more efficient, increases digestive juices, adjusts internal secretions and regulates the glands, increases bone density, slows aging and increases longevity.
Zhineng Qigong practice improves people's lives on many levels and in many different ways.
